Project Highlight: Calgary Farmers Market

Founded in 2004, Calgary Farrmers Market has come a long way since they started in an airplane hangar. With two locations, the market provides space for Calgarians to buy local produce and thoughtfully crafted goods local farmers, artisans, brewers, and other vendors.

In their new location, Calgary Farmers Market wanted to include an events space, usable for both conference and networking events. We worked with Calgary Farmers Market to design and build a fully integrated AV system providing presentation, video conferencing and signage capabilities in the mezzanine and throughout the market.

In the mezzanine, we installed a motorized projection screen along with a projector from NEC. The screen has been integrated into a Crestron control system to automatically lower when the projector is powered on, and to raise when not in use, revealing a stunning view of the eastern Rockies.

Behind the bar, a 75” LOFT Commercial Display has been installed. Rated for 16-hour operation and with a fantastic anti-glare coating, this display is perfect for a room with tons of natural light. For maximum flexibility in room layout, several wall input plates were installed around the room. This allows a laptop, game console, or other video input to be accessible if it needs to be (I.e. for meetings and presentations) or hidden away (for things like movies). The control and AV dsitribution system allows signals to be sent to the projector and commercial display independently, or mirrored between the two displays.

The mezzanine also features a full video conferencing system. A LOFT C400 camera provides full room camera coverage, and audio is provided by two handheld wireless microphones from Shure. Using a USB output on the wall plates, users can connect their computer to the system at multiple points in the room and use the camera and audio system for hybrid meetings, seminars, and presentations.

Throughout the market space, we’ve installed a paging and public address system split into 4 zones. This allows Calgary Farmers Market to independently control music and volume in the different areas of the market, and direct PA announcements to different spaces. All of the PA’s functions are controlled by a touch panel behind the reception desk, making it easy for staff to make adjustments throughout the day.
