Tech Tuesday - FrontRow Juno

Up to 25% of spoken content in a classroom is missed by students, even those who have perfect hearing. That number only increases as one moves further towards the back of the space. Juno by FrontRow solves this problem by filling the room with high-quality, non-disturbing audio.

 How it Works

Juno comes with two microphones, one handheld and one pendant, which can be worn around the neck, offering a completely hands-free experience. The microphones automatically connect to the Juno system and provide high-quality audio using the patented SonicSuffusion technology.

With the network communication module installed, the Juno system acts as a control hub for devices like projectors and displays VIA RS232 for power and input controls. The same functionality is available using the voice command feature. For example, you can say "turn the display on" into the pendant microphone, and Juno will fulfil the request. The LAN port allows Juno to communicate with a conductor system, which combines each unit, turning it into a school-wide paging system for announcements, lunch bells and everything else a standard school PA system can do.

The signal between microphone and speaker is infra-red, which allows for crystal clear communication anywhere in the classroom. For privacy reasons, the transmission cuts when the microphone leaves the room, stopping any conversations outside of the classroom from being widely broadcasted.

Ideal Use Case

The Juno system is an excellent solution for education and presentation spaces. School districts, in particular, experience extreme benefits due to the system's set of features catered towards making an educator's life easier and the learning environment more effective.

When we spoke with a representative from FrontRow, they were excited to tell us about a study conducted with the Juno, in which one early education classroom was equipped with a Juno, and another was not.

The students in both classrooms were asked to spell the word "train" for the first time based on how the word sounded to them. The study results showed that many students within the classroom without the Juno system attempted to spell the word using the CH consonant digraph, while the classroom with the Juno primarily tried to spell the word using the proper T sound in train. The study was quite telling and supports the idea that there can be a potential loss in education efficiency when communication is unclear.

It is important to distinguish that volume does not equal intelligibility. The crucial parts of our language are the phonetics involved in speech, and when indiscernible by others, productivity and advancements can be compromised during early education. This is just one of the many reasons FrontRow believes a Juno solution should exist within every classroom, and we at Evolution AV would have to agree!

Thank you to our friends at FrontRow for sending us a Juno to sample! To say we are impressed is an understatement. For more information on the Juno and other FrontRow products, visit them HERE.
